Rutgers basketball adds four-star recruit Lisa Thompson

Rutgers women’s basketball has added four-star Lisa Thompson.

On Wednesday, the future for Rutgers basketball got brighter with the addition of Lisa Thompson.

The Illinois native is a four-star recruit and No. 60-ranked prospect in the 2023 class, according to ESPNW. She brings an impressive resume to Rutgers.

Thompson was a two-time Herald News Player of the Year in high school and an Illinois All-State honoree. She also led her team to the 2023 Independent National Championship. Regardless of how the roster changed, Thompson’s teams have always made deep playoff runs partly due to her impact offensively.

During her high school career, Thompson averaged double-digit points all four years. As a junior, she averaged 23 points a year. The talented point guard made an impact on both ends of the court with over five steals per game last year.

Due to her impressive play, Thompson earned national honors during her junior year. She was named a McDonald’s All-American Nominee and received an invite to the USA Women’s U17 World Cup Team Trials.

Thompson is an excellent addition as the Scarlet Knights continue to build their program. She will provide a boost at both ends of the court as she continues to grow her game. When speaking with the media, Coquese Washington, the current head coach for Rutgers basketball, did not hide her excitement for her new point guard.

” We are truly fortunate to add a player like Lisa Thompson to our roster,” Washington said in a statement. “Lisa is one of the most athletically gifted players in the entire 2023 class. She has an impressive vertical jump and really gets after it on the defensive end. She also scores the ball in droves, especially on slashing attacks to the basket. She is definitely going to add lots of spice to our transition attack.”

While the start of the season is still months away, Rutgers fans can already start preparing for what should be an exciting season.
