Russ to Chicago? Billy Donovan relays message to Russell Westbrook

Donovan thinks ‘Chicago should be the place’ for Westbrook.

The Chicago Bulls were one of just two teams who didn’t make a trade prior to the deadline last Thursday.

Now, all eyes and focus are on the buyout market.

One player who is headed towards a buyout is former MVP Russell Westbrook, who was traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Utah Jazz in a three-team trade on Wednesday.

Once Westbrook hits the open market, the Bulls are said to have interest, which Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes spoke about on the #thisleague UNCUT podcast on Monday.

“I was told Billy Donovan with the Bulls, his message has been relayed to Russ that Chicago should be the place for him,” Chris Haynes said. “I don’t know if they’ve talked extensively, I don’t know if it was a text but I was told that his message has been relayed to Russ that Chicago should be the place.”

As soon as the Westbrook trade was announced last week, it was quickly reported by Haynes that the Bulls, along with the Los Angeles Clippers, would have interest if bought out by the Jazz.

Donovan, who has familiarity with Westbrook, coaching him in Oklahoma City for four seasons from 2015-2019, hopes to add a familiar face to the Bulls’ backcourt depth as Chicago fights for a playoff spot.
