The Jets and Giants always play against each other in the preseason at MetLife Stadium, but they might practice together as well in the lead-up to the game next summer.
Robert Saleh said Thursday that the Jets had conversations about joint practices with their stadium roommates, though he didn’t go into details. Saleh added that he finds a lot more value in practicing with an opposing team rather than actually playing the preseason games.
“I think they’re fantastic,” he said. “I’ve always felt like you get more out of those joint practices than you do the preseason game because it’s just different. It’s a more controlled environment. You’re not exposing yourself to being tackled or having to tackle. You can get a lot more work in.”
But as far as joint practices with the Giants, Saleh has his eyes set on next season.
“Hopefully next year,” he said. “We’d love to.”
The Jets do have two joint practices this preseason. They’ll start a session with the Packers on Aug. 18 in Green Bay and with the Eagles on Aug. 24 in New Jersey.
Both the Jets and Giants will open the preseason at MetLife Stadium on Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. It will be the venue’s first NFL game with fans since 2019.
