REPORT: Tua Tagovailoa has lowest Wonderlic score among quarterbacks

But on Friday, a new concern arose as Tagovailoa was reported to have scored the lowest Wonderlic score among quarterbacks.

With less a week until the 2020 NFL Draft begins, there is still so much uncertainty and so many questions surrounding one player in particular: Tua Tagovailoa. After enduring a devastating season ending injury against Mississippi State last season, Tagovailoa went from being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft to becoming the most questioned player in the draft.

Many teams seemed concerned with his healing process and recovery and wonder if he’s truly 100% and ready to go, and some other teams have questioned if he’s injury prone. But on Friday, a new concern arose as Tagovailoa was reported to have scored the lowest Wonderlic score among quarterbacks.

The Wonderlic test is used at the NFL scouting combine. The test is used to measure general cognitive ability in three areas: math, vocabulary, and reasoning. The test has 50 multiple choice questions that are to be answered in 12 minutes. In theory, it was  designed to find the sharpest minds among NFL hopefuls. But according to the Athletic’s Bob McGinn, Tua scored a 13 (out of 50) on the Wonderlic test, the lowest score among the quarterbacks in the 2020 draft class.

The best score among quarterbacks was a 40, by Iowa’s Nate Stanley. Georgia’s Jake Fromm scored a 35, and LSU’s Joe Burrow scored a 34.

It’s important to note that have a low score doesn’t mean you won’t be drafted. To give you an idea, Dan Marino scored a 14, and Lamar Jackson scored a 13. But with the questions and concerns already surrounding Tua’s draft stock, this may not be the best situation for Tua.

Here are the 12 Wonderlic scores among the quarterbacks in the 2020 NFL Draft:

Nate Stanley (Iowa): 40
Jake Fromm (Georgia): 35
Joe Burrow (LSU): 34
Jake Luton (Oregon State): 29
Jordan Love (Utah State): 27
Justin Herbert (Oregon): 25
Anthony Gordon (Washington State): 25
Brian Lewerke (Michigan State): 25
Jacob Eason (Washington): 23
James Morgan (Florida International): 23
Jalen Hurts (Oklahoma): 18
Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama): 13

Time will tell what teams are willing to give Tagovailoa a chance to prove he’s truly 100%.

For the season, Tagovailoa threw for 2,840 yards, 33 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

In his career at Alabama, Tagovailoa racked up 7,442 yards passing, 87 TDs and 11 INTs.

The NFL draft will take place from April 23-25.
