Report: Spurs showing interest in potential trade for Dejounte Murray

According to a recent report, the San Antonio Spurs have shown a potential interest in a Dejounte Murray trade.

During a recent appearance on FanDuelTV’s “Run it Back,” Shams Charania of The Athletic, the San Antonio Spurs have shown an “exploratory interest” in potentially trading for Dejounte Murray. This news comes less than two years after the Spurs traded him to the Atlanta Hawks for a haul of picks.

Atlanta is reportedly open for business this trade season, and according to long-time NBA insider Marc Stein and his newsletter, “The Stein Line,” they plan on building around Trae Young and Jalen Johnson. Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports also reported a similar finding, stating that Young and Johnson are the only “untouchable” players on the Hawks’ roster.

Fischer also wrote that the Hawks have made Murray “widely available” on the trade market.

Cal Durrett of Hoops Habit recently detailed the idea of Murray potentially returning to San Antonio, noting that the former All-Star could help the Spurs “solve those issues” at their point guard position.

With Victor Wembanyama leading the charge, San Antonio has tested a barrage of options at point guard. Jeremy Sochan began the season as the lead ball-handler, but when that failed, the Spurs moved onto a committee of Sochan, Devin Vassell, Tre Jones, and Malaki Branham. Then, just recently, they moved Jones into the starting lineup.

It’s been a bit of a mess at the one, and while the Spurs shouldn’t be in any rush to compete, adding competent talent around Wembanyama should never be viewed as a bad thing.

Going after Murray could give Wembanyama an All-Star-caliber point guard to play with for years, which would benefit both players.
