The rumors of a possible trade of New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley have been running rampant this offseason.
The Giants are in cost-cutting mode right now, as they are still approximately $6 to $7 million over the salary cap with less than two weeks remaining before the new NFL fiscal year begins.
Barkley is scheduled to make $7.2 million this coming season and the Giants can only shed his salary via trade. The team has indicated it will deal him if the right offer comes along.
But what does Barkley want to do? According to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, he would like to stay with the Giants — and he just might get his wish, as the Giants want a lot in return for him and there’s been no offers of worth floated their way thus far.
Saquon Barkley wants to stay and #Giants need to be blown away to trade him, sources say. “If he was traded to a team with just a decent offensive line,” one NFL coach said, “he could make them really regret it.” https://t.co/nTcU8zcn1v #nyg

True, Barkley could make the Giants regret trading him away should he land in the right spot, but where would that be?
Most teams use a running-back-by-committee approach, and the teams that don’t have a bellcow back already. Also, most teams don’t have the appetite to spend $7.2 million on a part-time running back, on top of having to trade for that player as well.
