Report: Redskins discussing potential hire of Pat Shurmur

The Washington Redskins are discussing the potential hire of former New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur.

When the New York Giants fired former head coach Ben McAdoo, his NFL career essentially ceased to exist. Save for a few radio interviews, McAdoo has not been seen or heard from in NFL coaching circles.

The same can not be said for Pat Shurmur, who is already drawing interest just one week removed from his Giants termination.

Grant Paulsen of The Athletic and NBC Sports Washington reports that the Washington Redskins have internally discussed bringing Shurmur on as their next offensive coordinator.

Although Shurmur and his offense were a complete disaster in New York, he experienced a high level of success as offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings in 2017, even winning the AP Assistant Coach of the Year Award.

Additionally, Shurmur was also revered for his playing calling in both St. Louis and Philadelphia, so it makes since that Ron Rivera & Co. would consider him for the post in 2019.

Giants fans may laugh at the notion of Shurmur joining the Redskins, but a staff of Rivera, Shurmur and Jack Del Rio is no joke and would be a significant step forward for Washington.
