Report: Patty Mills ‘likely’ to return to Brooklyn Nets this offseason

Earlier today it was reported that veteran backup point guard Patty Mills is “likely” to stay with the Brooklyn Nets.

After an impressive season for the team, Patty Mills has raised his value as a player in this league but seems “likely” to return to the Brooklyn Nets.

NBA reporter for The Athletic John Hollinger calculated upcoming free-agent guard values, using a formula of his own, BORD$.

Hollinger highlights Mills’ player option as one of the most interesting in the league, where he’d make $6 million next season. Hollinger’s BORD$ value for the seasoned point guard is nearly identical to his player option for next year.

Hollinger believes that even though Mills’ additional year in Brooklyn would compensate him for what he’s worth, he could opt out of the contract, just to sign a more expensive deal with the team.

Hollinger believes Mills will decide to stay with the team in Brooklyn as he writes:

“While it seems likely he’ll be back in a Brooklyn uniform in either event, he’d be eligible for a raise to $7.4 million if he opts out and then re-signs.”
