When there’s smoke, there’s usually fire. And in the case of former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo, there’s been quite a bit of smoke recently.
With his Giants contract expiring at the end of 2019 and his income vanishing as a result, McAdoo is ready to leave the comfort of his couch to return to the sidelines.
There have been rumors circulating that McAdoo might have drawn some interest in Denver and more recently, Philadelphia, but he has not had a formal interview with either. However, he officially returned to the circuit on Thursday with an interview in Carolina.
Newly hired Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, who has compiled a relatively impressive staff to date, had McAdoo come in for a face-to-face.

Given that the Panthers recently hired LSU’s Joe Brady to serve as their offensive coordinator, it’s likely that McAdoo interviewed for a spot as the quarterbacks coach or, possibly, tight ends coach — two roles he had served earlier in his NFL career.
After being hired as the Giants’ offensive coordinator in 2014, McAdoo was promoted to head coach after the departure of Tom Coughlin in 2016. He led the Giants to an 11-5 record and a playoff appearance that year, but was fired the next season after just 12 games and a 2-10 record.
