Report: Milwaukee Bucks signing former G League Santa Cruz Warrior Axel Toupane to a two-way contract

After an impressive stretch in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Milwaukee Bucks are signing Axel Toupane to a two-way deal.

While players like Jordan Poole, Nico Mannion, Jeremy Lin and Alen Smailagic headlined the Santa Cruz Warriors’ rotation, Axel Toupane quietly helped carry the Sea Dubs to the G League postseason.

During the Sea Dubs’ scorching run through the G League bubble, Toupane averaged 17.9 points on 53.8% shooting from the field with 8.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists in nine games. Toupane notched 20 or more points four times in the G League bubble, including a 24 point effort in the playoffs against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

After capping off an impressive stint with Santa Cruz, Toupane will be rewarded. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Milwaukee Bucks are planning to sign the French swingman to a two-way contract.

Toupane’s two-way contract will be his fourth stop in the NBA since 2016. The 28-year-old had stints with the Denver Nuggets (2016), Milwaukee Bucks (2017) and New Orleans Pelicans (2017). After playing in Europe from 2017 to 2020, Toupane spent the 2020-21 training camp with the Golden State Warriors before being waived.

Toupane will have the opportunity to return to the Bay Area when the Bucks travel to Chase Center on April 6.
