Report: Hornets hesitant to match max sheet offer for Miles Bridges

Could Charlotte let Bridges walk in free agency?

As the Charlotte Hornets continue their prolonged head coaching search, draft and free agency decisions are rapidly approaching.

Atop of Mitch Kupchak’s to-do list this offseason is to make a decision on restricted free agent Miles Bridges, who is set to receive close to, if not a max contract.

Reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, there could be some ‘hesitancy’ from the Hornets to match a potential max offer sheet.

Charania writes:

Rival executives expect Hornets restricted free agent Miles Bridges to command a maximum — or near-max — deal in July, and sources said there’s hesitancy from Charlotte to match a max sheet.

Now, just because the Hornets may be unwilling to match a max offer doesn’t mean they would necessarily lose Bridges for nothing. A sign-and-trade could be facilitated to ensure that Charlotte doesn’t end up empty handed.

This season, Bridges took that next step as he broke out and averaged 20.2 points, seven rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.
