Report: Duce Staley could be hired as Panthers OC

According to Justin Rogers of The Detroit News, Duce Staley will—at the very least—serve as the Panthers assistant HC and RB coach with the possibility of becoming Frank Reich’s OC.

ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano brought us the first whiff of this move on Wednesday afternoon, reporting that the Carolina Panthers are set to add Duce Staley to their coaching staff. But what was not reported on is the role Staley will serve.

Well, thanks to Justin Rogers of The Detroit News, we now have a bit of clarity on the addition.

According to Rogers, Staley will, at the very least, carry over his job titles from the Detroit Lions—where he was the assistant head coach and running backs coach. He’ll also have an opportunity to wind up as the offensive coordinator for new head coach Frank Reich, whom he worked alongside in Philadelphia from 2016 to 2017.

The 47-year-old has been given permission by the Lions to make the jump to Charlotte to be closer to his mother, who is currently dealing with health issues. Staley is a native of West Columbia, S.C. and a former University of South Carolina Gamecock.
