Report: Chiefs to reopen team facility following no positive COVID-19 tests

The Chiefs will be back at practice on Friday and more updates on their current COVID-19 situation.

There’s good news out of 1 Arrowhead Drive this morning after a hectic Thursday.

According to a new report from The Athletic’s Nate Taylor, the Kansas City Chiefs did not report any positive COVID-19 test results this morning. This comes a day after the team had to move up practice and shut down team facilities due to a positive test among an important member of their training staff.

The plan today is for things to look like a normal Friday for coaches, players and everyone in the building. The team is still set to play host to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.

In addition to the positive test among the training staff, the Chiefs had placed DT Chris Jones on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday afternoon.

According to numerous reports, Jones didn’t test positive for COVID-19 but was identified as a close contact. Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported last night that this close contact happened away from the team facility. What we don’t yet know is if Jones is considered a low-risk or high-risk close contact by the league. That will make all the difference in terms of his ability to play on Sunday against the Panthers. If he’s determined to be high-risk he’d be forced to stay on the COVID-19 list for a minimum of five days contingent on no positive test results.

The news this morning, however, is a good sign that the positive test that Kansas City had on Thursday is an isolated incident and not the beginning of a larger outbreak among the staff and players.
