Report: Chargers’ interview with Jim Harbaugh ‘went well’

Jim Harbaugh is the heavy betting favorite to be the next head coach of the Chargers.

The Chargers interviewed Jim Harbaugh for their head coaching vacancy on Monday, and it is reported that the meeting went to plan.

“The Chargers meeting as far as I’ve heard went well,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said. “They formally interviewed yesterday. The Chargers have not really been shy about their interest in [Harbaugh], it is real, it’s legitimate. I believe Harbaugh has a mutual interest as well. The chance with that quarterback, Justin Herbert, to make something happen.”

The question that looms is whether or not Harbaugh will remain the coach at Michigan, but Fowler indicated that it’s unlikely that he will return and would like to be an NFL head coach again.

“The question now is who else does he talk to? Michigan is trying to keep him. They’re trying to put together a package of some sort that would be very lucrative to keep him around, which I do believe he will entertain,” Fowler said. “I talked to a source close to Harbaugh who said the chances of him returning to Michigan at this point are probably pretty small. Certainly not out of the realm but he is intrigued about going back to the NFL.”

If Harbaugh makes the leap from the college level, other teams will be interested in him, most notably the Raiders. So, the Chargers’ selling point will have to be the finances and football operations.

Currently, Harbaugh is a big betting favorite to be the Bolts’ next head coach at -200, per BetOnline.ag.
