Report: Broncos, analytics guru Mitch Tanney agree to part ways

The Broncos and analytics guru Mitch Tanney have mutually agreed to part ways.

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway and football analytics director Mitch Tanney have “mutually decided to part ways,” according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Tanney joined the Broncos in 2015 and helped build the team’s analytics department. Denver is expected to replace Tanney from within. Scott Flaska, formerly Tanney’s top assistant, will likely have a larger role now.

Tanney was responsible for providing “objective research and analysis that influence football decisions for personnel executives (in particular evaluating draft prospects and free agents), coaches, trainers and strength-and-conditioning coaches,” according to Klis.

Klis also reports that Tanney has already drawn interest from multiple NFL teams and college football programs. He should land on his feet quickly.

This is the second change to the Broncos’ football personnel department this offseason. Last month, Elway parted ways with salary cap guru/contract negotiator Mike Sullivan and replaced him with Rich Hurtado, a former NFL agent.
