Report: Bills had interest in trading for QB Trey Lance

Report: #Bills had interest in trading for QB Trey Lance:

The Buffalo Bills appear to be interested in upgrading their backup quarterback position.

On Friday, the San Francisco 49ers traded former third-overall selection, quarterback Trey Lance. In the end, the Dallas Cowboys acquired Lance for a 2024 fourth-round pick.

After the dust settled, follow-up reports indicated that the Bills had discussions with San Francisco for Lance.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Buffalo and the Baltimore Ravens had conversations with the Niners. A second update via the San Jose Mercury indicated that the Cowboys’ offer of a fourth-round pick was better than what the Bills offered up:

In Buffalo, like Dallas, Lance would have been a backup option. In that area, the Bills have gotten spotty play this summer. Both Kyle Allen, who signed in Buffalo this spring, and Matt Barkley, have struggled during the preseason.

While the Bills did not end up with Lance, their interest indicates a desire to upgrade behind Josh Allen. With roster cut down day in the NFL looming next week, Buffalo might be on the lookout for other quarterbacks.

Bills Wire will provide roster updates throughout the 2023 season.
