Report: Bill Callahan could be in play to coach Giants’ offensive line

Bill Callahan is reportedly in play as a potential offensive line coach for the New York Giants.

The New York Giants and head coach Joe Judge are expected to make some headway in compiling their brand new coaching staff on Thursday, and that could come by way of Jason Garrett signing on as their offensive coordinator.

Interestingly, should he be hired, Garrett may find himself reunited with an old friend and recent foe in Bill Callahan, who finished the 2019 regular season as the Washington Redskins’ interim head coach.

Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports that Callahan has emerged as a possible offensive line coach for Big Blue.

One person who does not appear to be a candidate for the Giants’ offensive coordinator job is Bill Callahan, the former Redskins interim head coach and a long-time NFL assistant. However, he could be a candidate for the Giants’ offensive line coach job, a source said.

The one potential drawback is that Garrett and Callahan apparently had some sort of falling out during Callahan’s final days in Dallas in 2014.

There has been some question over whether he’d be willing to work with Garrett, since there was reportedly friction between the two of them during Callahan’s final days as Garrett’s offensive coordinator in Dallas in 2014. Whether the two would be willing to work together again depends on who is asked. Some sources say they have put their differences behind them and a reunion could be possible.

Garrett and Callahan would be a dynamic duo for the Giants and a tremendous get for the organization, who need to surround Judge with as many experienced and like-minded assistants as possible.

If Callahan doesn’t join the Giants, another name Vacchiano suggests to watch is Dave DeGuglielmo, who was recently fired as the Miami Dolphins’ offensive line coach.

Another name to watch for Giants offensive line coach is Dave DeGuglielmo, who was recently fired after one year as the Dolphins offensive line coach. He coached with Judge too, when he was the Patriots offensive line coach in 2014-15.

DeGuglielmo served as the Giants’ assistant offensive line coach from 2004-2008 under Tom Coughlin.
