Report: Badgers running back set to miss remainder of 2023 season

Badgers running back suffers season-ending injury

After suffering a heartbreaking lower-leg injury in the Badgers’ 38-17 win over Purdue on Friday night, Wisconsin running back Chez Mellusi is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 college football season.

The graduate senior sustained a fractured fibula in the second half of the contest according to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN. He’ll finish the season with 307 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Due to the fact that he suffered the injury in the fourth game of the year, he’d still technically have a chance to return for a sixth collegiate season next year, if he decides to so.

At this moment, none of that really matters. As a leader in the locker room and on the field, there’s no doubt that Chez will still be a very active part of the team moving forward this season.

If there’s one thing to know about Mellusi, it’s that he’s as tough as it gets, bouncing back from a torn ACL (2021) and a significant wrist injury (2022) in the last couple years.

Through my interactions with Chez and his teammates, he’s a beloved member of the program and one heck of a man, both on and off the field and I’m confident he will once again come back stronger from this injury.
