Report: Antonio Pierce a ‘top target’ for Giants if passed over by Raiders

If Antonio Pierce is not hired by the Las Vegas Raiders full-time, he will reportedly become a top DC target for the New York Giants.

Due to the fallout that led to the New York Giants and Wink Martindale parting ways, the Giants now have a vacancy at defensive coordinator.

With the search for Martindale’s replacement underway, there are many options to explore, including some familiar faces.

At the top of the Giants’ list of desired candidates, allegedly, is a familiar face to the franchise — none other than former Super Bowl Champion, Antonio Pierce.

Pierce was on the Giants when they won Super Bowl XLII — he served as a captain and was a fan favorite during his time with Big Blue.

Pierce, of course, served as the interim head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders since the end of October and ironically tallied his first win as a head coach against the Giants.

He was impressive in his time as the interim head coach and even caught the eyes of former teammate, Eli Manning.

If the Giants are serious about hiring Pierce as their defensive coordinator, they will have to wait to see if the Raiders hire him as their next head coach.

Pierce will likely draw interest from other teams as a coordinator, if not as a head coach candidate. His familiarity with the Giants organization may play into the team’s hand if unjustly kicked to the curb in Las Vegas.
