It was “Mike Day” once again in Baton Rouge, but it didn’t go as planned as Ole Miss won Game 1 in 5-3 fashion after the game had to be paused on Friday night before resuming on Saturday morning due to a lightning delay.
The Tigers welcomed the Ole Miss Rebels into town for the last home series of the regular season. The first inning was just about as good as it gets if you are a Tiger fan as [autotag]Ma’Khail Hilliard[/autotag] struck out two of the three hitters he faced. In the bottom of the inning [autotag]Dylan Crews[/autotag] hit a Crews Missile to right field to give LSU a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the second, the Rebels got both of those runs back plus two more as they plated four runs on a pair of two-RBI singles.

In the words of Garth Brooks, the thunder rolled and the lightning struck Baton Rouge in the middle of the third inning. That led to the game being suspended until Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
When play resumed, it was the bottom of the third inning and the Tigers were up to bat. Ole Miss kept the same starting pitcher on the mound as they had last night, but LSU swapped its pitcher after the long break.
Hilliard’s game was done after three innings after giving up four runs on four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. It then became the [autotag]Ty Floyd show[/autotag]. In the top of the fifth inning, the Rebels hit a solo homer off of Floyd to extend their lead to 5-2.
That score held until the bottom of the eighth inning when [autotag]Jordan Thompson[/autotag] hit a solo homer of his own to cut the lead to 5-3.

That was the last run the Tigers managed to score in the game as they fell in game one 5-3. LSU will look to tie the series in game two which is starting shortly after Game 1. As soon as that game ends, there will be a recap right here on LSU Wire.
