Ravens P Jordan Stout showers praise on special teams consultant Sam Koch

Baltimore Ravens rookie punter Jordan Stout on former Raven punter Sam Koch as a coach.

The Baltimore Ravens drafted punter Jordan Stout in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.  The team already had fellow punter Sam Koch on the roster at the time, but a few weeks after the draft the veteran hung up his cleats and transitioned to a coaching role within the Baltimore organization as a special teams consultant.

Stout was asked what he thought about having Koch coaching him, and showed praise on the accomplished former punter. He talked about how Koch is “genius”, diving in depth into his coaching style and how he’s not trying to turn Stout into a version of himself.

“[Special teams consultant] Sam [Koch] is genius on the field. He really knows what he’s doing. And the one big thing I want to say is me and Sam are very different punters, and every day I’m out there … Let’s say I make a mistake, or I consistently make a mistake that he wouldn’t have made, he never once says, ‘Oh, well, if I was out there, I would be doing this.’ He’s always like, ‘Hey Jordan, this is what you did; let’s fix it next time.’ He’s not trying to turn me into him, which is unbelievable, and how good of a coach he is after player for 16 years is remarkable.”

Koch was one of the best punters in the league during his time in the NFL, so to have someone of that nature coaching Stout is a tremendous advantage for not only the rookie himself, but the team as well. The former Penn State star impressed during the 2022 preseason, and should help the Ravens win games throughout the year.
