Ravens’ Mike Macdonald could create a big complication for USC football

Mike Macdonald of the Ravens will be an in-demand figure in the NFL coaching carousel. We explain why that matters.

The USC Trojans have a defensive coordinator who recently worked with the Baltimore Ravens. D’Anton Lynn was with the Ravens before he went to UCLA last season as the Bruins’ defensive coordinator. USC then poached Lynn from UCLA. Keep this in mind as you follow the bouncing ball.

Right now, one of the hottest names in NFL coaching circles is Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald. His Ravens have clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs, meaning Baltimore will play a game on the weekend of January 20 and 21. The Ravens will not play on wild card weekend, January 13-15, meaning Macdonald could conceivably interview for NFL head coaching jobs that weekend.

Ravens Wire has noted the speculation surrounding Macdonald in the NFL coaching carousel. Next week, NFL jobs should come open as teams’ seasons end. The Los Angeles Chargers’ job is already open. The Washington Commanders should fire Ron Rivera. The New England Patriots might fire Bill Belichick.

If Macdonald takes an NFL head coaching job, guess who becomes a strong candidate to be the Ravens’ 2024 defensive coordinator? Yup.

D’Anton Lynn.

We will see what happens.
