Ranking the Bills’ needs after first wave of free agency

With all those moves in mind and as the second week of free agency gets underway, here’s an updated ranking of the Bills’ needs and the offseason rolls on:

5. Wide receiver

Stefon Diggs improves this group drastically. Before him, this was the Bills’ No. 1 need and now we’re down to No. 5 and really just splitting hairs at this point ranking these needs.

Diggs joins the likes of John Brown and Cole Beasley. The new addition can make contested catches and run routes with the best of them. The Bills now have two 1,000-plus yard receivers in Diggs and Brown from just a year ago and Beasley needs little introduction. But this group still lacks size and future potential.

The Bills will have Diggs for at least the next three seasons under his current contract, and even then, Buffalo could re-sign him for a few more years because then he’ll be around 30, which is the current age range for Brown and Beasley.

With those two concepts in mind, the Bills would more likely find youth at the draft to go along with that size need. The modern NFL often calls for multiple receiver sets and the Bills began using more 11 personnel (3 receiver) sets later on last season. Buffalo would be smart to add a young player with some size that you can’t teach to round out this group nicely.
