2. Running back
The Bills have a solid start at the running back position in Devin Singletary, but little else. With Frank Gore out of the picture, there’s Taiwan Jones, Christian Wade and TJ Yeldon. That’s it.
At the recent combine, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott did, in a strange way, rave about Yeldon. The 26-year-old spent a chunk of last season inactive. So being so complimentary of him seemed odd. If anything, it mostly showed that the Bills have moved on from Gore.
But the good thing with this need is that there’s plenty of options still out there, both in free agency and at the draft, all which could be considered inexpensive.
Free agents still out there include Carolos Hyde, Chris Thompson, Lamar Miller, Devonta Freeman and heck, even LeSean McCoy. During the “second wave” of free agency, price tags start to go down, so don’t count out the Bills adding a running back still.
Notoriously over recent years with the exception of Saquon Barkley, running back usually aren’t selected in the first round of the draft, either. So with the No. 54 pick, Buffalo could have plenty of options there, or even in the third round. Singletary was a third-round rookie himself.
And look at the numbers, plus fullback Patrick DiMarco… Yeah, they need more depth. There will be additions.
