Ranking the Bills’ needs after first wave of free agency

With all those moves in mind and as the second week of free agency gets underway, here’s an updated ranking of the Bills’ needs and the offseason rolls on:

10. Safety

Thanks to a re-signing, this group is set.

Jordan Poyer re-signed with the Bills early in free agency and now one of the NFL’s best safety tandems with Poyer and Micah Hyde will be back for a few more years. Behind those two, there’s Dean Marlowe, who previously had experience in McDermott’s defense with the Panthers. He’s been the team’s No. 3 safety and he also re-signed recently.

Rounding out the crew is Jaquan Johnson and Siran Neal, both young players who now have some experience under their belts themselves, so it seems unlikely the Bills need to add much here. Plus Neal can play the “big nickel” cornerback role, furthering the depth of the cornerback crew, too.

Bonus: Special teams

Sorry specialists, but we’re putting you in a grouping of your own.

Kicker: Stephen Hauschka will be back, pending some kind of terrible training camp.

Punter: The Bills could improve from Corey Bojorquez. But they already added his training camp competition in kicker/ punter Kaare Vedvik.

Long-snapper: Reid Ferguson.
