No. 3 – @ LSU
The only reason this game is not in the top two is that it is not considered a must-win for the Longhorns. Even if they were to pick up a loss in Death Valley, Texas can still accomplish their goals.
Beating the possible defending national champions would be nice though. It will be an opportunity to show the nation what level the Longhorns will be playing at in 2020. Big game Tom Herman should show up for this one, giving momentum for the rest of the season.
No. 2 – @ Oklahoma State
As said before, ending the season with Oklahoma State feels odd. Especially over Thanksgiving weekend. Either way, this has the potential to decide a lot in the Big 12. Quarterback Spencer Sanders, wide receiver Tylan Wallace are confirmed coming back and the nation’s leading rusher in Chubba Hubbard has the chance of coming back.
Texas has struggled against the Pokes since Mike Gundy took over, having an 8-7 record against him. The Longhorns have dropped their last two in Stillwater and will more than likely have to beat Oklahoma State to make it to the Big 12 championship game.
No. 1 – Oklahoma (Dallas)
It does not matter how both of these teams are playing throughout the year, this will always be the most important for both teams. It meant a lot during the national championship runs under Mack Brown and it meant a lot during the low points of the Charlie Strong era.
Now that both teams are expected to compete for the Big 12 championship, it means that much more. Getting an early advantage in the conference standings will give Texas less pressure throughout the season.
Plus, beating Oklahoma is fun.
