Raiders sign veteran DT Vernon Butler to contract on Tuesday

The Raiders continue to add depth to their defense this week and this time, it’s on the defensive line.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the Raiders have signed former first-round pick Vernon Butler to a one-year deal.

Butler last played for the Buffalo Bills, appearing in 10 games during the 2021 season. Despite being a first-round pick, Butler has only started 19 games in his career. However, he is a giant run-stopping defensive tackle and that was a need of the Raiders heading into the offseason.

Butler is just 27 years old and does have a bunch of experience. While he could be one of the team’s starting defensive tackles, he’ll still be in for a major competition for a roster spot with Andrew Billings and Kendal Vickers.
