Changes from last season

Addison signed a three-year, $30.45 million contract. He will take over for Shaq Lawson, who departed for the Dolphins this offseason. In addition, Addison will take away snaps from Trent Murphy. A signing such as this indicates the team is looking for more production than what Murphy has provided thus far in his time in a Buffalo uniform.

When Buffalo lines up in a base 4-3 formation, it will place AJ Klein as the strong-side linebacker. Klein replaces Lorenzo Alexander, who finished out his career with a successful run on and off the field for the Bills. When the team goes into the nickel formation, Taron Johnson will replace Klein. Buffalo plays out of that nickel formation often under head coach Sean McDermott.

The other change at this time is the cornerback spot opposite White. Norman was signed to compete with incumbent Levi Wallace. Norman was impressive during his previous incarnation in Sean McDermott’s defense. It still remains to be seen where EJ Gaines factors into this. Will he simple be a depth player with his ability to play both outside and the slot? Or will the Bills have a three-way competition for their No. 2 spot with Wallace, Norman and Gaines?
