A search is underway in hiring the Vols’ next football head coach. Clemson offensive coordinator Tony Elliott is a candidate to fill Tennessee’s vacancy.

Elliott has coached at Clemson since 2011. He started as a running backs coach for the Tigers, a unit he oversaw through the 2014 campaign.

The CFP practice for Clemson was moved to their hotel the Hilton Riverside. The practice took place on Jan. 11. Elliott was promoted to co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach from 2015-19. Jeff Scott served as co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach between 2015-19.

Scott left Clemson for his first head coaching position at South Florida following the 2019 campaign. Scott’s departure allowed for Elliott to become the Tigers’ sole offensive coordinator in 2020.

A current Power Five assistant that coached alongside Elliott at Clemson discussed with Vols Wire what Tennessee would be getting as a head coach in Elliott.

“Great person, one of the best I have ever been around,” Vols Wire was told of Elliott. “Really good coach, very detailed.”
