The Green Bay Packers may have missed out on a Super Bowl appearance, but their future still seems to be bright. They have quarterback Aaron Rodgers and coach Matt LaFleur, a talented tandem (even if LaFleur made a horrible decision in the NFC title game). LaFleur and Rodgers have their shortcomings, but the offense was incredible in 2020.
They can just run it back in 2021, right?

Well, Rodgers cast some doubt on his future with the organization during a postgame press conference after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Packers, 31-26, on Sunday in the NFC Championship.
Rodgers called his future “uncertain.”

That doesn’t make much sense.
Rodgers, 37, has made no indications he intends to retire, but that could be in play. What’s more likely is that Rodgers is pointing toward the organization’s decision to draft quarterback Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Love, a Nevada product, needed time to develop his impressive but raw tools. Is one year enough? No one knows but the Packers.
But with Rodgers playing at an MVP level, it’s hard to imagine Love supplanting Rodgers anytime soon — not unless Love is the second coming of Patrick Mahomes. It sounds like LaFleur feels good about Rodgers’ future. The Packers coach said he “sure as hell” hopes his quarterback returns.

So, what is Rodgers talking about? It’s probably nothing. But with Rodgers carrying the highest profile in the NFL for a quarterback not named Brady or Mahomes, the Packers quarterback situation will be worth monitoring.
