PHOTOS: Kicker Evan McPherson comes up short in NFL Week 1

McPherson sets the new Bengals field goal distance record but falls short on a chip shot in overtime.

Former Florida Gators place kicker [autotag]Evan McPherson[/autotag] kicked off — literally — his sophomore season in the National Football League on Sunday with a mixed performance in the Cincinnati Bengals‘ overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The second-year special teams standout, on one hand, had a solid showing booting a 59-yard field goal to set a new team record for distance — one more than the one he set last season. On the other hand, McPherson had an extra point blocked and missed a 29-yard field goal that would have won the game. However, some bad timing and a long-snapper switch likely were the causes of the latter.

He ultimately ended the day 2-for-3 on field goal attempts along with the lone blocked extra point attempt. Take a look below at some quick highlights from Evan McPherson’s first game with the Bengals during the 2022-23 season.
