Florida baseball got off to a rough start to the 2024 campaign on opening night, falling to the visiting St. John’s Red Storm, 9-5, inside Condron Family Ballpark on Friday in front of an opening day record crowd of 7,898 fans.

The visitors put seven runs on the board over the first three frames before the home team had a chance to plate a runner. By then, the game was well out of hand but the Gators fought valiantly during the middle innings, putting up five unanswered runs to cut the lead to two.

Unfortunately, the offense ran out of gas and the pitching staff coughed up another couple of runs, resulting in the final score.
