Philadelphia Eagles land in the top-5 of a ranking of NFL’s next great dynasty

Eagles are No. 5 on list of teams that can be NFL’s next great dynasty

Depending on who you ask, the Philadelphia Eagles are either in the midst of a youth retool or currently in the prime of another Super Bowl window.

The Birds have Carson Wentz as the franchise signal-caller, a boatload of speedy weapons, and a retooled secondary led by Darius Slay and K’Von Wallace.

With Howie Roseman making moves to ensure salary cap flexibility and a faster roster, the Eagles are looking to use three straight playoff appearances as momentum heading into the 2020 NFL season.

With Tom Brady taking his talents to Tampa and the Chiefs as the reigning Super Bowl champions, there seems to be room for a new dynasty to take shape in the NFL.

NFL.com recently broke down a list of teams that could take the baton from New England and start their own run as the league’s gold standard.

Not all 32 teams made the cut, but the Eagles did, landing at No. 5 on the list.

5) Philadelphia Eagles
I hated the Jalen Hurts pick because Carson Wentz is an absolute star. The kind of star an NFL team should be dying to build around, not plan around. If the Eagles were so concerned about Wentz’s long-term health, why did they give him a $128 million contract extension less than a year ago? Protect that investment by surrounding him with everything he needs.

Fortunately, Howie Roseman did provide a needed influx of explosiveness to the receiving corps. First-round selection Jalen Reagor’s a home-run hitter who’ll immediately hold a prominent role in this offense. Meanwhile, fifth-round pick John Hightower and trade acquisition Marquise Goodwin bring additional take-the-top-off speed of their own. Roseman also shored up the defense with the marquee acquisitions of Javon Hargrave and Darius Slay — and don’t sleep on the signing of stout nickel corner Nickell Robey-Coleman.

Doug Pederson has posted consecutive 9-7 seasons since leading the 13-3 Eagles to a Super Bowl title in his second year on the job. It’s time to get back to double-digit wins — and stay there.

The Eagles finished ahead of the Bills on the list and behind the Cowboys (4), 49ers (3), Ravens (2), and the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs were the top team.

If the Eagles can stay healthy, start games off faster, and gel on defense, this team has the potential for a fourth straight playoff appearance and a deep postseason run.
