Philadelphia Eagles’ Darius Slay apologizes for ‘joke’ about police officer hit by object

Eagles defensive back Darius Slay apologized for a “joke” he made about a police officer being knocked down by a flying object.

Darius Slay scored points when he came to Philadelphia from Detroit by switching to No. 24 to honor the memory of Kobe Bryant. He lost some this weekend with an ill-advised joke about a policeman hit with a flying object.

The defensive back tweeted — and then deleted — a post in reference to a video that captured a police officer being hit by a flying object that looked like a shield of a Marvel superhero.

This was the original video:

In the since-deleted tweet Friday, the Eagles’ cornerback commented “Captain America” alongside a cry-laughing emoji, in response to the video that circulated on social media.

Slay tweeted Saturday:

Yesterday I made a comment on a post that, at the time, seemed harmless to me. If you know me, you know I’m a funny, outgoing type of guy. I made a comment that seemed humorous at the time but I meant no harm. I do not condone law enforcement violence whatsoever, especially with everything going on now. To anyone I offended, I do apologize.”

Slay is from Brunswick, Ga. where 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery was shot and killed while jogging in a residential neighborhood in February.
