Philadelphia 76ers at Brooklyn Nets odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Philadelphia 76ers at Brooklyn Nets NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Philadelphia 76ers (7-1) stop by Barclays Center for a 7:30 p.m. ET tip-off against the Brooklyn Nets (4-4) Thursday. Below, we analyze the 76ers-Nets NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Philadelphia survived a donnybrook at home vs. the Washington Wizards last night beating Washington 141-136 but couldn’t cover the 6.5-point spread. The 76ers countered a 60-point game by Wizards SG Bradley Beal with 61.7% field-goal shooting and 62.1% from 3-point land as a team.

Brooklyn was getting 4.5 points at home, partially due to the absence of SF Kevin Durant, and it beat the brakes off of the Utah Jazz 130-96 Tuesday. Kyrie Irving came out and lit up the Jazz in the first quarter, scoring 18 points on 100% shooting with 3 rebounds and 3 assists. the Nets beat the Jazz 35-14 in the opening 12 minutes.

What should be a litmus test game for both teams has been lessened a tad only because KD is sidelined due to health and safety protocols stemming from his close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. In 2019-20, the 76ers beat the Nets 3-1 (3-1 against the spread) in the season series.

76ers at Nets: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

76ers 113, Nets 107

Money line (ML)

It’s a sucker play but I am going to roll with the 76ERS (-130) for 1.5 units. I say that because according to Pregame.com, more than 70% of the money is on the Nets (the sharp side) while a slight majority of the tickets/bets placed are on the 76ers (the average Joe).

We’re due for a bounce-back game by a Philadelphia team that has the best defensive rating in the NBA. The 76ers are 2-6 O/U and the six in the Under column is mostly due to their defense. Philadelphia’s perimeter defense has all the personnel it needs to be the best in the league with new hire SG Danny Green and star PG Ben Simmons.

Sometimes you have to be OK with losing money. What I mean by that is if Brooklyn can trot out SG Bruce Brown and SF Jeff Green in its starting lineup and beat a 7-1 Philadelphia then I’m alright taking an L on this one.

GIMME 76ERS (-130) for 2 units.

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS ON THE SPREAD because I’d rather spend the extra 15 cents on the dollar to not have to worry about the 76ers covering any number.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS ON THE TOTAL with a lean on the UNDER 226.5 (-110). It appears as though both sides of the market are hammering the Over and I don’t feel like fading them considering the offensive firepower on both sides.

My read is we see a good Philadelphia performance, however, the Over has cashed in three straight 76ers-Nets meetings and I much prefer to play sides than totals.
