PFF gives Vikings an ‘average’ grade for signing CB Patrick Peterson

The move helps shore up Minnesota’s defensive backfield, even if Peterson isn’t the same player as he once was.

The Vikings made a big splash in free agency, signing former All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson to a one-year, $10 million deal.

The move helps shore up Minnesota’s defensive backfield, even if Peterson isn’t the same player as he once was.

Over at Pro Football Focus, Brad Spielberger and Ben Linsey gave the Vikings an ‘average’ grade for the signing.

Here’s a snippet of what they wrote about the move:

Peterson will join a young cornerback group that features Mike Hughes along with 2020 draft selections Cameron Dantzler and Jeff Gladney. This isn’t great value for Minnesota considering Peterson’s dip in play of late, but the hope will be that a change in scenery helps brings out the player who allowed fewer than 400 yards into his coverage in each of the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

While it might be an overpay, it’s hard to argue against the Vikings doing it. Mike Zimmer is considered a cornerback whisperer and if any coach can help  a veteran, it’s probably Zimmer.

PFF also gave the Vikings an ‘average’ grade for their signing of Dalvin Tomlinson.
