Giants signing former Jags QB Glennon

The 31-year-old will backup Daniel Jones in New York next year, as he has signed a deal with the Giants.

Former Jacksonville quarterback Mike Glennon has found a new home. The veteran journeyman will be signing with the New York Giants, where he will back up starter Daniel Jones, who missed two games in 2020 due to injury.

The 31-year-old spent the 2020 season in Jacksonville, originally being signed in May before he was released on Sept. 5. He was re-signed to the practice squad and then promoted to the active roster on Sept. 8.

With Gardner Minshew II dealing with injuries, Glennon started in five games for the Jags in 2020 and finished the season with a 62% completion rate, while throwing for 1,072 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions. He hasn’t been a regular starter since his rookie season in 2013, but he has demonstrated the ability to play if needed, a trait that will surely be appreciated with an uncertain long-term quarterback situation in New York.

His one-year deal in Jacksonville expired, and the Jags have experience signal-callers in Minshew and Jake Luton to backup the player most expect the Jags to take first overall in Trevor Lawrence. Now, he’ll try to aid in the development of Jones, who has shown promising signs at times but has struggled with consistency in his first two seasons.
