PFF: Bills’ Gabe Davis is 63rd best pending free agent in NFL

PFF: #Bills’ Gabe Davis is 63rd best pending free agent in NFL:

Gabe Davis became a polarizing player for the Buffalo Bills in 2023.

After a hot start to his career following his selection in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft, Davis has since cooled off. He went from postseason record setter to eventually recording multiple games without a single catch this past season.

Even so, Pro Football Focus is banking on the past success Davis has had. He was named as the NFL’s 63rd best pending free agent hitting the open market in March.

Davis ended up recording 45 catches, 746 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023 for the Bills. Realistically, because of Buffalo being near $40 million over next year’s salary cap, Davis is likely to test the free agent market.

But there have been players in the past that have done so and ended up returning to the Bills. It likely depends on whether or not another team may end up out-pricing the Bills. Speaking of, PFF estimates that Davis could earn a one-year, $12M deal this spring as a free agent. That might end up pricing Buffalo out.

Here’s how PFF came to their free agency conclusion on Davis:

Davis is your typical vertical threat out wide, averaging more than 15 yards per reception in every season of his career and coming down with a fair amount of contested catches with good high-pointing skills. However, Davis doesn’t have the fastest release off the line and doesn’t snap off in-breakers with a sharpness to create separation over the middle. He’ll help stretch the field outside the numbers for an acquiring team and can have some huge outings on occasion, but he can also be absent from the box score at times.
