Patriots Wire Podcast: What Patriots got right and wrong in the draft

Did the Patriots set themselves up for future success with their 12 draft picks?

The 2023 NFL draft was not a fan service kind of draft for the New England Patriots.

That much is obvious after the team used their first three picks on defensive players, stockpiled inside offensive linemen and even traded up into the fourth round for a kicker.

This was a nightmare draft for those dreaming of Zay Flowers and Darnell Washington both being Patriots players by the end of the weekend. It wasn’t a draft where coach Bill Belichick was chomping at the bit to maximize the offensive talent at the skilled positions.

But that also doesn’t mean the draft was a failure, either.

Quite the contrary, the general consensus is that the Patriots had a really good draft. They came away with arguably the top cornerback on the draft board, added a pair of athletic freaks to the defensive front, fortified their protection along the offensive line, addressed their special teams needs and took a couple of late fliers on two promising receivers.

Me and Ryan O’Leary are here to break it all down in this week’s episode of the Patriots Wire Podcast.
