Patrick Mahomes says his NBA comparison is Stephen Curry and he is exactly right

Mahomes played basketball in high school and thinks he could shoot like Steph.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said that if he played basketball, he would be like Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry.

Mahomes said he’s already “got the shot” but would just need more reps to shoot just like the NBA’s all-time leader in 3-pointers. The quarterback, 28, is a two-time Super Bowl champion and two-time NFL Most Valuable Player.

By the time Curry was the same age, he was also a two-time NBA Finals champion and a two-time MVP. The superstar guard has since won two more titles for the Warriors.

Mahomes is certainly not the first person to make the comparison between himself and the Golden State sharpshooter.

While the two have similarities based on their success in their respective sports, it is worth noting that Mahomes also played basketball in high school. Those skills may have helped him on the football field.

Curry has watched some of Mahomes’ highlights on the hardwood and he was impressed:

“I was going to give him some compliments on how fluid he was with his feet … You would have no idea that’s Pat Mahomes right there … And he looks pretty comfortable around the trees, as we call them, when he gets in the paint … His creativity, double spin moves … He’s pretty well-rounded even though the jumper needs some work.”

For the most part, Curry liked what he saw from Mahomes except for the fact that the quarterback shoots “with his whole body” on his jumper.

Mahomes acknowledged that he is never going to shoot like Curry but that his jumper goes in when he shoots it, which is all that matters.

The quarterback, who had a celebrity golf match against Curry last summer, has previously said that he wishes he was “as cool” as the four-time NBA champion.

Curry recently said he “loves” Mahomes and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
