Panthers provide health update on Marquis Haynes Sr.

After staying overnight in Jacksonville on New Year’s Eve due to a concussion, Panthers OLB Marquis Haynes returned home to Charlotte on Monday.

As announced by the Carolina Panthers, outside linebacker Marquis Haynes Sr. returned to Charlotte on Monday afternoon. Haynes Sr., who sustained a concussion during Sunday’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, stayed behind at nearby Baptist Medical Center overnight.

The 30-year-old defender was injured in the third quarter of the New Year’s Eve contest upon tackling Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard. Haynes Sr. attempted to get up following the play, but fell back down multiple times before being tended to by the medical staff.

After a long delay, Haynes Sr. was carted off the field. He gave the crowd a thumbs-up sign as he was transported away.

Haynes Sr. began the 2023 campaign on injured reserve due to a back issue that flared up at the beginning of training camp. He made his return in Week 10, where he played 17 defensive snaps in the 16-13 loss.

Per the official release, Haynes Sr. remains in concussion protocol.
