Panthers GM Scott Fitterer: Talking to Bryce Young is like talking to a 40-year-old man

Panthers GM Scott Fitterer praised Bryce Young’s maturity on Thursday, telling WFNZ’s Mac & Bone that talking to the Alabama QB is like talking to a 40-year-old man.

Uncle Bryce may be coming to town.

On Thursday, Carolina Panthers general manager Scott Fitterer joined WFNZ’s Mac & Bone to chop up the obvious—next week’s NFL draft. When talking about Bryce Young, Fitterer broke out an interesting comparison for the brainy and quick-witted quarterback.

“All the guys actually did really well in the process,” he said of interviewing the draft’s top passing prospects. “Bryce, in particular, did an absolutely great job with us when we sat down for dinner. Every time we talk to him it’s like talking to a 40-year-old man. His maturity, his clarity of thought, just how deep he thinks—the big picture part of it—he’s got it all. He’s a really, really smart guy. And I said the other three guys are all on par with that as well. But Bryce, in particular, is really strong.”

Other than that, um, whimsical simile, this is not exactly news. Young has always been considered the most poised, polished and pointed quarterback of the class—a belief that was solidified by what was reportedly an astronomical score from the Alabama star on the S2 Cognition test.

The 21-going-on-40-year-old Young is currently the heavy favorite to be selected by the team with this year’s No. 1 overall pick.
