Another interesting scenario unfolded in one recent mock draft involving UCLA star Laiatu Latu.
Doug Farror and Jeff Risdon of Touchdown Wire composed a mock draft. In it, Latu ended up in Carolina as the Los Angeles Rams traded down to give the Panthers a perfect Brian Burns replacement.
Here is what they wrote about the Panthers moving up to snag Latu:
The trade up to land the premier pass rusher on the board was not a hard decision for the Panthers, who have to replace Brian Branch and build up a new defense. For the Rams, exiting the first round is tough, but their ability to hit on middle-round picks is enough insurance. Had the Rams stayed, the pick would have been Darius Robinson, who wound up being available for them at No. 33 anyway.
Latu stepping in as a Brian Burns replacement would be a big get for the Panthers as they once again enter a new direction with another new head coach.
