Now that the Portland Trail Blazers …

Now that the Portland Trail Blazers have added the 17-year veteran and 10-time All-Star, Anthony can now weigh in on how Dudley became linked to his hiatus from the league. “Me and Jared Dudley had some issues in the past, man, but I started feeling bad for him a little bit,” Anthony told Yahoo Sports. “I mean, not feeling bad, but it’s just like, ‘Leave that man alone.’ It’s not his fault. Teams that wanted him, they wanted a specific role, and that’s why they picked him up. I had to tell some guys to lay off. He wasn’t keeping a roster spot from me. That wasn’t the case. The [treatment] he received wasn’t right.” Anthony expounded on the issues he had with Dudley. “Man, it was just some game s— in [competition],” he told Yahoo Sports. “S— that happened on the court. Nothing serious. We don’t have any problems.”

With a new team and a rejuvenated love …

With a new team and a rejuvenated love for the game, Anthony looks forward to seeing what the Trail Blazers can accomplish once they’re fully healthy. It’s been a long journey to get back to where he belongs, but it was that experience — which caused so much unnecessary vitriol directed toward Dudley — he said he won’t take for granted. “Yeah, [Dudley] didn’t deserve that,” Anthony told Yahoo Sports. “We were in different situations. You can’t blame him for what I went through.”

Alex Bazzell, who works with Trae …

Alex Bazzell, who works with Trae Young, Kyrie Irving, Bobby Portis and Doug McDermott among others, talks about training with Anthony over the past few months to get ready for the ex-Knick’s return to the league. “The biggest thing was making quick decisions off the catch. He’s had the luxury of being one of the top 10 players in the world, in my opinion — top 5 players at one time — in his career. So he just got accustomed to kind of holding the ball, letting everyone else clear out so he can kind of go one on one. In the new NBA, in the role that he’s being asked of, that wasn’t something he was going to be able to do more often than not.

Bazzell and Anthony were connected …

Bazzell and Anthony were connected through Anthony’s physiotherapist Fabrice Gautier. They worked from June to August in Los Angeles. Bazzell also worked with Anthony in New York prior to the season and in the days leading up to his Portland debut. He says Anthony, 35, was very much open to making changes to his game: “He was actually extremely receptive. I was actually kind of surprised that a guy who has had that much success playing a certain way (was so receptive). He was completely bought into the (idea that on) the defensive side of the ball, he’s got to get better. He was bought into not being able to hold the ball (on offense). We would still work on his mid-post because I think that’s going to be a part of his game that he’s going to have to rely on to score every now and then. You don’t take that away, you keep all of that fresh. When we would play one-on-one scenarios, when he’d catch, it’s hard because sometimes you just have a tendency to hold it, relax and kind of let the defense make a mistake. It was just trying to break habits that he’s built up for so long and he was never defensive about it. He was always 100 percent in agreement with what I was saying, which makes my job and my life 100 percent easier.”

It was Nov. 21, 2019 and it was about …

It was Nov. 21, 2019 and it was about as unremarkable of a game as the title-contending Bucks will play the entire season, yet Antetokounmpo had a story to tell from it, a story to tell about the guy who helped him write the mythology of his own career by talking trash to a skinny, unknown 18-year-old six years earlier. “He came to me and on a rebound, he pushed me,” Antetokounmpo said. “And then on the next play, I pushed him. He came down and he was like, ‘You good?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah. I’m good. You good?’” “He’s a guy that’s not going to back down, but I’m not going to back down either. It’s fun playing against him. I love that guy.”

New Balance Basketball announced today …

New Balance Basketball announced today the endorsement deal with San Antonio Spurs point guard Dejounte Murray. To officially welcome him to the New Balance family, Murray is featured in a new commercial spot where he “inspires us with a little motivation” and reveals the black and white OMN1S colorway “Lights Out” launching globally December 4th. The commercial’s tone is tongue-in-cheek, set by Murray naming himself a “hair icon” – but his message is from the heart. He dispenses motivational tidbits like “success isn’t a straight line” and “find your own path”, but these truisms find real meaning for a player like Murray, whose road to starting point guard has been anything but conventional. Before Murray earned a reputation as a rising star in the league and an endorsement deal with global athletic leader New Balance, he had to first put in the work.

Breaking: Matthew Stafford ruled out vs. Redskins in Week 12

At his morning press conference, Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia ruled Matthew Stafford out for their Week 12 matchup at Washington.

At his Friday morning press conference, Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia ruled quarterback Matthew Stafford out for their Week 12 matchup at Washington.

The Jeff Driskel era continues.

Stafford fractured his back in Week 9 against the Oakland Raiders. This will mark the third game Stafford will have missed, which shouldn’t be a surprise given it was reported his injury could last up to six weeks.

Stafford insists he does not want to be shut down for the season, but for the previous two weeks of practice, he has only been able to observe and advise Driskel on how to execute the Lions’ game plan.

It’s possible Stafford could find his way back to the practice field next week, but with the Lions hosting the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving, the odds are stacked against him. At this time, it appears the earliest Stafford could return is Week 14, when the Lions travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings.

What happens over the next two games could go a long way toward determining the rest of Stafford’s season.

Chiefs leaders stay home for bye week, do good in Kansas City community

Patrick Mahomes hosted the 15 and the Mahomies inaugural charity Gala and Tyrann Mathieu gave away turkeys during the bye week.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and defensive back Tyrann Mathieu spent their bye week’s doing good in the Kansas City community.

On Thursday evening Mahomes’ foundation hosted their inaugural Gala. There they recognized the work of several local charity organizations and community leaders dedicated to improving the lives of children in Kansas City.

“It’s been amazing,” Mahomes said. “We’ve been able to, just in a short amount of time, impact the Kansas City community, the Lubbock (Texas) community and hopefully soon we can get into the Tyler (Texas) community where I am from. This gala is kind of a stepping stone of the first one and we’re able to be here and see the support that we already have in this Kansas City community.”

Mahomes’ foundation awarded 15 different charity organizations with a $15,000 grant as a way of recognizing the work they’ve done within the community. Here’s a list of the organizations recognized.

  • Special Olympics KC
  • Operation Breakthrough
  • St. Mark’s/United Inner-city Services
  • Variety KC
  • Children’s Mercy Hospital
  • Kansas City, MO Public School Foundation
  • Kansas City, Kansas Public School Foundation
  • Boys & Girls Club of KC
  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace
  • Team Little Owl
  • Citi Year
  • Lead to Read
  • Turn the Page KC
  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
  • Make a Wish KC

The gala also had a charity auction in order to help raise funds for future charity endeavors. A newly-built playground in the Kansas City area, which was announced at the event by 15 and the Mahomies, is currently in the planning phases.

Several of Mahomes’ teammates were in attendance at the Gala to support their quarterback and friend. The group included Travis Kelce, Blake Bell, Gehrig Dieter and Tyrann Mathieu.

Mathieu also led a busy Thursday. Besides supporting Mahomes at his foundation’s event, Mathieu welcomed his newborn daughter and hosted his annual Thanksgiving event for the first time in Kansas City. Mathieu provided meals to 320 families in need throughout the Kansas City area.

“I look at [Thanksgiving] as a time for people to celebrate their families, their friends and enjoy some great food,” Mathieu said.

Mathieu hoped that he was able to help relieve some of the Holiday stresses so that these community members can enjoy the time to their fullest.

Kansas City is very lucky to have athletes with such a passion for helping the surrounding community and doing everything within their power to make it a better place. If these two events are any indication, both Mahomes and Mathieu will continue to use their platforms to do good in the greater Kansas City community for a very long time.

Nevada Travels To U.S Virgin Islands For Paradise Jam Tournament, Will Play Fordham on Friday

The Nevada Wolf Pack will travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands to play in the 2019 Paradise Jam Tournament and their first game will be against the Fordham Rams.

Nevada is heading into this tournament on a two-game losing streak and their most recent defeat was on Tuesday night against Davidson. In that game against Davidson the Wolf Pack defense was abysmal as Davidson shot 46 percent from the three point line and on offense Nevada turned it over 21 times as Davidson cruised to a 91-71 victory.

Nevada will need to clean up their offensive and defensive problems quickly as they prepare to play in the Paradise Jam tournament. In their first game of this tournament on Friday, they take on the Fordham Rams who are 3-0 but the opponents the Rams have played are a combined 3-8 so far this season. This contest against the Wolf Pack will provide Fordham with a bit of a challenge for them on Friday,

The Rams top players to watch for start with is forward Chuba Ohams from Brooklyn, New York. Ohams leads the team in points as he is averaging 14 points per game to go along with eight rebounds per game. Ohams front court teammate, Onyi Eyisin, is tied for second on the team in points with 11.5 points per game and he is averaging 10.5 rebounds per game. This frontcourt tandem for Fordham is one that could give the Wolf Pack a challenge when they play on Friday.

Joining Nevada and Fordham in the 2019 Paradise Jam Tournament field is Valparaiso, Grand Canyon University, Cincinnati, Illinois State, Bowling Green, and Western Kentucky. If Nevada were to defeat Fordham they would face the winner of the Valparaiso and Grand Canyon University on Sunday. If Nevada were to lose to Fordham, they would be placed in the losers bracket where they would play the Valpo/GCU loser the next day.
