Prediction

Nuggets 110, Knicks 98

Moneyline (ML)

The Nuggets have won seven of their last 10 games and are 5-2 on the road this season. The Knicks are only 3-8 at home. Denver has lost two games in a row but New York has lost seven straight. Denver is a chalky -358 Thursday night, but there’s very little risk. Back DENVER with confidence.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on Denver to win outright would profit $2.79.

Line/Against the Spread (ATS)

The Nuggets are 3-3-1 and come in 1.1 points per game below the cover line. New York is 5-6 at home against the spread and comes in 3.5 points per game below the cover line.

The line opened at 8.5 points. Slight lean toward DENVER (-8.5, -106) to win by nine or more points. It delivers a $9.43 profit on a $10 wager.

Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total is set at 202.5 (Over: -115, Under: -106). Denver averages 106.1 points per game and New York allows 110.4 per contest. These are two of the lowest-paced teams, with Denver ranked 29th at 97.7 possessions per game and New York 26th at 98.1. Take the OVER (-115) with a small wager.

Doug Pederson provides an update on Jordan Howard’s status for game vs. Giants

Eagles RB Jordan Howard still not cleared for contact

The Philadelphia Eagles are in jeopardy of being without running back Jordan Howard for a fourth straight game.

[lawrence-related id=626824,626858,626826]

Howard has been nursing an ailing shoulder (stinger) and on Thursday, head coach Doug Pederson told the media that the running back still hasn’t been cleared for contact.

Pederson went on to say that he doesn’t think Howard’s injury is season-ending. The Eagles have four regular-season contests left and have missed Howard’s physical, downhill running style.

Taylor Rapp rising the ranks as one of the NFL’s best rookies

Taylor Rapp has quickly emerged as one of the best rookies in the NFL.

After 50 picks were made in this year’s draft, the Los Angeles Rams finally joined the fun and made their first selection – after trading back three times. They wound up with Washington safety Taylor Rapp, who was viewed as one of the best prospects at his position in the class.

He wasn’t expected to be a full-time starter as a rookie with Eric Weddle and John Johnson already at safety, but with Johnson out, Rapp has become a key player on defense. He’s also turned out to be one of the top rookies in the league, regardless of position.

Pro Football Focus ranked the best rookies after 13 weeks and Rapp cracked the top 10. He was No. 8 on the list after breaking through with a huge performance against the Cardinals.

The start to his rookie campaign was a slow one, but Taylor Rapp is picking up steam as of late — his 82.5 overall grade since Week 7 is the fifth best among all qualifying safeties. In that timespan, Rapp has produced the third most defensive stops (20), fifth most combined pass breakups and interceptions (five) and has allowed just a 65.2 passer rating (seventh). Rapp has produced his best plays for the Rams when playing free safety — since Week 7, Rapp has played more snaps at that alignment then he had during the first six weeks and has had an 84.3 grade in that role, ranking behind only Tyrann Mathieu and Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Rapp has made the transition from rookie backup to full-time starter look easy, playing at a consistently high level in the secondary. He can play free and strong safety, but he’s best when lining up in the box and near the line of scrimmage.

His pick-six against Arizona showed exactly why the Rams liked him out of Washington, displaying great awareness and instincts by reading Kyler Murray’s eyes and getting in the throwing lane.

He’s only going to get better, too, which makes the idea of Rapp and Johnson starting at safety in 2020 all the more exciting.

Report: Jaguars LB Myles Jack headed to IR

The Jaguars will be losing yet another leader on their defense. Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, middle linebacker Myles Jack (knee) is headed to injured reserve. The decision comes after Jack missed practice last Wednesday and Thursday, but was limited Friday Evidently the team may have found out he was nowhere near close to 100% and decided to shut him down with the playoffs out of reach Another factor that may have played into the decision was the fact that Donald Payne balled out in his place Sunday against Tampa Bay Jack ends his 2019 season with 66 total tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 quarterback hits, 0.5 sack, 4 passes defended and a Pro Football Focus grade of 46.1

Report: France’s planned January MMA legalization pushed back to later date

The legalization of MMA in France has been pushed back to a later date.

It appears MMA fans in France will have to wait a bit longer before an event comes to their home country.

After it was announced earlier this year that MMA in France will be legalized effective January, “Le Parisian” is reporting that the date has been postponed to at least February, if not longer.

The postponed date comes due to a delay in approval, which the Comité National Olympique et Sportif Français (France’s Olympic and Sports Committee) has to give the country’s minister of sport, Roxana Maracineanu.

The first announced MMA event in France is the Afro-French MMA promotion ARES Fighting Championship, which is scheduled to take place on March 21 in Paris. ARES FC is run by MMA Factory Paris head coach Fernand Lopez, who coaches the likes of UFC fighters Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane.

If the sport is not legalized by then, the event will have to find a new location.

Broncos WR Courtland Sutton will be a challenge for the Texans defense

Denver Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton will be a challenge for the Houston Texans defense, according to coach Bill O’Brien.

The Houston Texans game-plan to defend the Denver Broncos on Sunday starts with wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

Sutton, a second-year former SMU Mustang, has grown into a start in a Broncos offense that has seen three starting quarterbacks in 2019. At 6-4, 216-pounds with catch-it-all hands, improved route-running and jump-ball ability, the Brenham native is a nightmare to defend.

Sutton has grabbed 54 catches for 906 yards and six touchdowns through 12 games of 2019 play. His production should not come as a surprise to the Texans coaching staff, who scouted him heading into the 2018 NFL Draft.

“We looked at him a lot. I mean, 6-foot-4, 216 pounds. Very good player, very physical guy, can run routes,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said Wednesday. “The 50-50 ball is tough to defend with him. He’s really good at contested catches. So, yeah, he’s a very difficult challenge for us this week, no doubt.”

The Texans got a look at Sutton as a rookie in 2018. Then, he had three receptions for 57 yards in a Broncos loss. He’s a different player from that early November Texans win; a more developed one.

“You guys are seeing a person that is growing into his body,” said Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay to the Broncos media on Wednesday. “He understands his leverage and his body. You can tell that he went back for the summertime and really, really practiced his routes, which we all knew that’s what he wanted to do. Now you guys are seeing somebody that’s more comfortable and confident, and that’s going to continue.”

Last week, Sutton hauled-in four receptions for 74 yards and two touchdowns en route to a Broncos 23-20 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. If the Texans don’t want to emulate the Bolts, the will enter NRG Stadium on Sunday with a clear-cut plan on how to stop Sutton, No. 14.

Patriots are fortunate to have the ideal backup lineman with James Ferentz

When an NFL team’s second-string center leaves the game due to injury, it oftentimes leave the coaching staff in shambles.

When an NFL team’s second-string center leaves the game due to injury, it oftentimes leave the coaching staff in shambles. Especially if that second-string center exits the game in the final stretch of the regular season.

This happened to the New England Patriots in Week 13 when they lost Ted Karras to a knee injury. New England has been without its starting center David Andrews this season because of blood clots, leaving them with Karras as the starter for the year. He’s done an excellent job handling the ball and keeping Tom Brady upright.

Fortunately for the Patriots, James Ferentz was still around to plug in for Karras during that Week 13 matchup. The 30-year-old journeyman has had quite the interesting career thus far, and it’s likely that his NFL career would be over if the Patriots didn’t keep him. He ran out of practice squad eligibility last season, so he either made the 53-man roster, or he didn’t.

He made the roster, and he feels fortunate to play the role that he’s in. Ferentz spoke with reporters on Wednesday and discussed his current role.

“I’ve been really fortunate to have a role,” Ferentz said, transcribed by NESN. “It’s been a backup role and whether it’s left guard, center, right guard, it doesn’t really matter to me. My job is to make sure I’m ready to play anything I’m needed to do. I’m just really thankful to have a job.”

That’s the mentality that keeps the Patriots relevant every season, and it shows why having reliable backups make all the difference. Instead of shopping for a new center during Week 14, the Patriots can focus on other areas of the team.

“Every week you just kind of put your head down and just focus on preparing,” Ferentz said. “And for me, that’s been a backup role. I’m very grateful for that role. If you’re needed, you just hope that you’re ready to go, and that’ll be the same plan this week again. We’ll see what happens Sunday. And for me, I just need to stay in my routine and make sure I’m ready to go.”

As for Karras, his injury is considered minor and he’s expected to return within the next couple of weeks. Ferentz will hit the bench at that point and remain a constant player that provides security and depth for this team.
