NFL Network Mock Draft Lists No Notre Damers

f Notre Dame is to go without a first round selection it would be the first time since the 2017 draft that were to occur.

Daniel Jeremiah is a former starting quarterback at Appalachian State and spent time working in the front offices of the Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore since he graduated in 2000.

Jeremiah is now an analyst at NFL Network and spends a ton of time offering his thoughts on draft prospects once we transition from the collegiate season to the off-season.

Jeremiah released his latest mock draft last week and perhaps to the surprise of some, no Notre Dame players were listed.

A few notable things from this draft:

-Joe Burrow goes first.  That part isn’t a shock but he’s the first of five players form LSU that Jeremiah projects to go on opening night.  The Tigers are tied with Alabama for the most first round picks in this mock at five.

-Clemson checks in with three projected first round picks, two of which come from the defensive side of the ball and one that comes from the offense.

-Ohio State has a somewhat surprising total of just two first round picks here but it doesn’t feel that light by Ohio State standards when you realize the projected second and third picks are both Buckeyes.

-No tight ends go in round one, noteworthy obviously when discussing Cole Kmet who several have as a likely first rounder.

-Four Notre Dame opponents from the 2019 season are projected to go in the first round by Jeremiah.  Those include offensive tackle Mekhi Becton of Louisville (4 – Giants), offensive tackle Andrew Thomas (10 – Browns) and running back De’Andre Swift (18 – Dolphins) of Georgia and offensive tackle Austin Jackson of USC (26 – Dolphins).

If Notre Dame is to go without a first round selection it would be the first time since the 2017 draft that were to occur.

Rams only projected to get one compensatory pick in 2020 NFL Draft

The Rams are expected to only get one pick at the end of the 4th round.

Last offseason, the Rams had three big-name players set to hit free agency: Lamarcus Joyner, Rodger Saffold and Ndamukong Suh. The first two signed early in the process, but Suh sat on the market for a while before signing with the Buccaneers in May.

The Rams weren’t very active on the market, only bringing in one qualified free agent, which was Clay Matthews. Eric Weddle was cut by the Ravens and signed before free agency began, so he didn’t count toward the compensatory formula.

Suh’s departure didn’t, either, since he signed after the window closed for signees to factor into the equation.

As such, the Rams are only projected to receive one compensatory pick in the 2020 draft for their losses last offseason. According to Over The Cap, that pick will come in the fourth round. Their other fourth-rounder was canceled out by the addition of Matthews.

You might be wondering how a sixth-round compensatory pick cancels out a fourth-rounder, which is a very valid question. It’s also one that no one really has the answer to. The NFL doesn’t make its compensatory pick formula public, which complicates things.

But the equation factors in things like contract value, playing time and post-season accolades. So by some secret calculation, the Rams will get a fourth-rounder for losing Saffold to the Titans.

Kobe Bryant’s influence expanded far beyond the hardwood.

Sports figures and fans across the globe mourned Bryant’s death Sunday after a helicopter crash claimed his life, the life of his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and seven others who knew the Bryant family.

Justin Thomas, one of many golfers to mourn Bryant’s death on social media, found a way to honor Bryant, 41, at this week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open.

In a photo posted by the PGA Tour, Thomas displays Titleist wedges he will use at TPC Scottsdale which are engraved with phrases to honor the NBA legend. His four wedges have been stamped with the words, “Mamba mentality,” “Black Mamba,” “Kobe Bean Bryant” and “81 points” in reference to the former Los Angeles Lakers’ famous game in 2006 against the Toronto Raptors in which he scored 81 points — the second-highest total in NBA history behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point game in 1962.

Thomas, who has favorable odds to win this week’s Phoenix Open, posted about Kobe’s influence on Twitter after news of Bryant’s death was confirmed Sunday.

“I have no words other than RIP to somebody I loved and wanted to be like when it was game time,” Thomas wrote.

Bryant’s 81-point game is only one of the remarkable accomplishments of his 20-year career with the Lakers. Bryant, who retired in 2016, ranks fourth on the NBA’s all-time leading scorers list with 33,643 points, a feat passed by LeBron James Saturday evening. He was also named NBA MVP after the 2007-08 season, won five NBA Championships and claimed back-to-back NBA Finals MVP Awards in 2009 and 2010.

Bryant is survived by his wife, Vanessa, and three daughters.

Thomas tees off his first round at the Waste Management Phoenix Open Thursday at 10 a.m. ET from the 10th tee alongside Jon Rahm and Hideki Matsuyama.

The Calabasas hillside has become a pilgrimage point for thousands of tourists and fans of the Lakers legend, prompting Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials to urge the public to stay away. Sheriff Alex Villanueva warned onlookers that it is a misdemeanor to enter the crash site and that those found in the area would face arrest. Deputies are patrolling the site on horseback and ATVs, he said. Several individuals tried to get into the area Sunday after the deadly crash and were turned back by law enforcement.
