Michigan State Basketball’s Gabe Brown throws down huge dunk against Charleston Southern

MSU Basketball won big against Charleston Southern tonight and this Gabe Brown dunk says it all.

By the time you read this, Michigan State Men’s Basketball will have probably already beaten Charleston Southern. As I am typing this MSU is up 87-40 so I don’t think I’m jinxing anything by saying that. Anyway, this was a fun game and a nice change of pace from the drama-filled win over Seton Hall. In my favorite highlight of the game, Gabe Brown threw down a huge dunk over Charleston Southern, putting the exclamation point on a huge game.

You can watch it below:

Steven Izzo just checked in so this thing is over folks.

Studs and duds in the Cardinals’ 36-26 loss to the 49ers

Jordan Hicks was fantastic. David Johnson was MIA.

The Arizona Cardinals had players who stood out and some who had performances to forget in their 36-26 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Who were the studs and duds in the loss?

Stud: LB Jordan Hicks

Hicks certainly did his part in the game. He had one of his best games with the Cardinals. With his first tackle of the game, he reached 100 for the season, the first time he has done that in his career. He filled the stat sheet. He finished with 13 tackles, two for loss. He had a sack. He picked off a pass and was credited with a pass breakup. He also had two other hits on 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

PTI’s Tony Kornheiser had this to say about Jameis Winston’s future with the Bucs

See what ESPN’s Tony Kornheiser said on “PTI” about Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston and his future in Tampa Bay.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost 34-17 to the New Orleans Saints yesterday, and whether he deserves it or not, quarterback Jameis Winston is receiving the brunt of the criticism.

Winston had four interceptions yesterday, putting his season total at 18, which matches his career-high. The numbers on the quarterback don’t lie, and given that he’s playing on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract, the Bucs aren’t obligated to keep him beyond this season.

And, it seems one ESPN personality thinks the Buccaneers would benefit by looking to the 2020 NFL Draft for a new quarterback.

On ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” today, Tony Kornheiser was asked during the show’s “Big Finish” about Winston’s performance against the Saints and what it means for his future.

Here was the exchange:

WILBON: “Jameis Winston threw four picks in a loss to the Saints. Is it time for a change?”

KORNHEISER:”I don’t know about right now. But, it’s time to look to the draft at the end of the year.”

Kornheiser is repeating what a lot of people are saying. It’s just not working out in Tampa Bay. Winston is still young and talented enough to find an opportunity elsewhere.

It might be best for him and the Buccaneers to just start fresh after five seasons.

CB Johnathan Joseph: Texans didn’t do enough defensively against the Ravens

Houston Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph said that the defense did not do enough against the Baltimore Ravens in a blowout loss.

When the opponent scores 41 points, the presumption is that the defense did not do enough against the offense. On Sunday, that notion is applicable to the Houston Texans defense against the Baltimore Ravens, as they were outscored 41-7.

“We just didn’t execute the defense as a team. When you come on the road in a tough environment, you know it’s going to be tough, but, at the end of the day, we didn’t do enough,” said cornerback Johnathan Joseph after the loss.

The Ravens recorded 25 first downs to the Texans’ 16 on Sunday. Their 491 total yards doubled the 232 from Houston. On third-down the Ravens converted 56% of their attempts (nine) to 20% from Houston (10).

The Texans could not get off the field. Even worse: Baltimore’s 41 points came after a first quarter in which Houston allowed none and did a relatively good job of shutting down quarterback Lamar Jackson.

“We got off to a hard start on defense,” continued Joseph. “We got two fourth-down stops if I remember correctly and then, I wouldn’t say things spiraled out. But third downs, we had them a couple of times and let them get out. There were several second-and-longs, and they made a couple catch and runs and moved the chains.”

Houston’s defensive performance was one to forget. There aren’t any individual places to point the blame to. The loss was a group effort. The pass-rush couldn’t get to Jackson; the secondary struggled; the run defense wasn’t there; the linebackers were exploited in coverage.

“There were a lot of things throughout the game, said Joseph, “but it wasn’t any one thing in particular other than Lamar Jackson at quarterback.”

The culmination of a defense that struggled in most areas and couldn’t contain Jackson is their worst loss in recent memory. Luckily, they will be able to shake it off quickly, as Houston plays host to the rival Indianapolis Colts on Thursday.

Browns work out 10 players as suspensions loom

Browns work out 10 players with injuries and suspensions taking their toll

As suspensions for Myles Garrett and Larry Ogunjobi loom, the Cleveland Browns hosted and worked out 10 NFL free agents.

Some of the names are recognizable, most notably Tank Carradine. He was a second-round pick by the 49ers in 2013 coming out of Florida State.

The list in alphabetical order:

B.J. Blunt, LB

Tank Carradine, DE

Jawill Davis, WR

A.J. Howard, DB

Damion Jeanpierre, WR

Tyron Johnson, WR

J’Mon Moore, WR

Jacob Thieneman, DB

Roc Thomas, RB

Leonard Wester, OT

The Browns immediately will need bodies on their defensive line and in the secondary with Garrett and Ogunjobi out with suspension and Morgan Burnett out for the season with an Achilles injury.
