Notre Dame Week 13 highlight — Jadarian Price gets a TD before halftime

Jadarian Price finally punches it in against a stout Army goal-line defense.

This time, it’s [autotag]Jadarian Price’s[/autotag] turn.

No. 6 Notre Dame turned to Price to get the ball into the end zone on third-and-goal against the No. 18 Army Black Knights. This after the first two attempts at the end zone were stuffed — and Army had already had a goal-line stand against the Fighting Irish earlier in the game.

Price’s run ended an 8-play, 50-yard drive that took 2:14 off the clock. Price scored with 26 seconds remaining in the half.

No. 3 Texas tops Kentucky 31-14, stays in first place in SEC

The Texas Longhorns are one win away from clinching the SEC Championship after defeating Kentucky 31-14.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian reflected on his journey with the Texas Longhorns following their 31-14 victory over Kentucky on Saturday, a win that kept the No. 3 Longhorns (10-1, 6-1 SEC) atop the Southeastern Conference standings and in control of their postseason destiny.

“I didn’t do a great job of appreciating moments along the way when I first got here,” Sarkisian said. He added that he knows that “there is a prize out there that we are striving for.”

The No. 3 Longhorns, poised for a spot in the SEC Championship Game and a favorable position in the College Football Playoff rankings, showed resilience and grit to secure the win on Senior Day at Royal-Memorial Stadium against Kentucky.

Texas opened with an uncharacteristically efficient first drive, marching 75 yards in 11 plays. Quarterback Quinn Ewers capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Gunnar Helm, who Sarkisian called “the model of what development in our program should look like.” Helm, a senior, caught two touchdowns on the day.

A standout play in the drive came from wide receiver Matthew Golden, who hauled in a 19-yard reception on third-and-11, one of his five catches in the opening quarter.

Kentucky tied the game in the second quarter, but Texas responded decisively. Jaydon Blue’s 5-yard touchdown run regained the lead, and Helm’s second touchdown, set up by Jelani McDonald’s interception of Kentucky quarterback Brock Vandagriff, extended the margin. Bert Auburn’s 49-yard field goal as time expired in the first half gave Texas a commanding 24-7 lead.

The third quarter tested the Longhorns. The offense sputtered, managing just 72 yards, and turnovers nearly opened the door for Kentucky. Linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson returned a fumble by Ewers for a touchdown, narrowing the lead to 24-14.

Texas regained control in the fourth quarter with a methodical 15-play, 86-yard drive that consumed 8:22 of game time. Quintrevion Wisner punctuated the possession with a 1-yard touchdown run, effectively sealing the victory. Sarkisian lauded the drive as a “culture, attitude drive” that demonstrated the team’s ability to manage the clock and close out games.

Before No. 3 Texas kicked off its final home game of the 2024 season against Kentucky, the Longhorns celebrated Senior Day at Royal-Memorial Stadium. Eighteen scholarship players, including quarterback Quinn Ewers, were honored in a pregame ceremony.

The list of outgoing Longhorns featured defensive tackles Vernon Broughton, Jermayne Lole, and Bill Norton; wide receiver/return specialist Silas Bolden; cornerback Gavin Holmes; safety Andrew Mukuba; linebackers Morice Blackwell Jr. and David Gbenda; offensive lineman Hayden Conner; tight end Juan Davis; center Jake Majors; EDGE Barryn Sorrell; tight end Gunnar Helm; safety Michael Taaffe; defensive lineman Alfred Collins; and cornerback Jahdae Barron. The ceremony celebrated their contributions and legacy as they took the field one final time in front of the home crowd.

The Longhorns will face Texas A&M (8-2, 5-1 SEC) next Saturday in College Station for the first meeting between the rivals since 2011. The high-stakes matchup carries significant postseason implications, with both teams eyeing a spot in the SEC Championship Game.

With one hurdle left in the regular season, Texas looks poised to take the next step in its pursuit of championship glory in their first year in the Southeastern Conference.

In the words of Matthew McConaughey: Well, Alright. Alright. Alright.

What Luke Fickell said after Wisconsin’s loss to Nebraska extended losing streak to four

What Luke Fickell said after Wisconsin’s loss to Nebraska extended losing streak to four

Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell addressed the media following the Badgers’ 44-25 loss to Nebraska on Saturday.

The Badgers’ season may have reached its lowest point in the contest. UW allowed the Cornhuskers to pick up nearly 475 total yards on offense and 20 unanswered points from the second to the third quarter. The team has now lost four consecutive conference games to drop to 13th in the Big Ten.

Luke Fickell addressed the loss bluntly after the game.

“This is getting old,” Fickell said. “I don’t have any excuses. We didn’t play well. We didn’t play well in the complementary football that we have to on the road in particular. We played really, really poorly, especially tackling-wise in the second half.”

With a must-win game against Minnesota fast approaching, Wisconsin will need to regroup quickly if it wishes to have any shot of clinching its 23rd straight bowl game.

“We have to challenge ourselves,” Fickell said. “We have to look real deep in a short week and find out who’s with us and who’s willing to lay it all out on the line… I don’t have a problem having blind faith. When you struggle like that, I’m sure there’s guys that have some doubts in their minds… you’re going to have to find ways to pick yourself back up and have some faith in the process.”

The challenge with the Badgers, however, seems to be the pressurized situations. As fans have witnessed against Penn State, Oregon, Iowa and Nebraska, things can unravel quickly.

“We can play really, really well, and then we get to a situation where things don’t go well and can’t find a way to regroup or have the poise to make adjustments,” Fickell said. “I don’t have an answer. I can’t put a finger on it other than go back to work and make sure you know who you have with you.”

The one bright spot, though, was quarterback Braedyn Locke. The Texas native threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns in the loss in arguably his best individual performance of the 2024 slate.

“He managed what we asked him to manage, and he took the shots when we needed to take shots, and he made some good decisions,” Fickell said. “Those are the kind of things we need to continue to build upon. But it’s hard to see through right now.”

All focus will now turn to Minnesota in what will be Wisconsin’s final game of the season. If Wisconsin wins, it secures a bowl bid. If it loses, the season becomes a full-on disaster.

“I don’t know if there’s any more pressure on us than finding a way to get up and go back at it to play a rivalry game that’s as important as anything we do all year,” Fickell said. “Are there other things that lay in the balance? Yeah, there are, but I don’t think those are things that are going to be in the forefront of what we have to do.”

Wisconsin and Minnesota will kick off on Friday at noon ET, 11 a.m. CT at Camp Randall Stadium.

ESPN’s ‘College GameDay’ destination announced for “Rivalry Week”

ESPN’s “College GameDay” location for Week 14 has been revealed.

Over the years, one of college football’s most anticipated weekends has been the final week of the regular season in Week 14, which is commonly referred to by fans of the sport as “rivalry week.”

A week that pits rival schools against each other, some of rivalry week’s top matchups each year include the Iron Bowl between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers, as well as others such as the Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Michigan Wolverines and Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Ole Miss Rebels in the Egg Bowl.

Well, one of college football’s top rivalries is now set to be added to that list this upcoming week as well, as the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies are set to officially renew their head-to-head matchup this upcoming week for the first time since 2011.

This is also where ESPN’s “College GameDay” will be visiting Saturday as well, the show announced Saturday night the return trip to College Station for the Week 14 matchup.

“College GameDay” was previously in College Station back on Aug. 31 for the Texas A&M vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish game.

Colts vs Lions: Detroit CB Terrion Arnold downgraded to out for Week 12

The Lions will be without another defensive starter against the Colts with CB Terrion Arnold being downgraded to out for Week 12.

The Detroit Lions will be without another defensive starter on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

After cornerback Terrion Arnold was listed as questionable on Friday with a groin injury, the Lions announced on Saturday that he had been downgraded to out and wouldn’t travel with the team to Indianapolis.

Arnold was the Lions’ first-round selection in this past April’s draft out of Alabama. He has been one of Detroit’s starting boundary cornerbacks this season and has given up a completion rate of 63 percent on 59 targets at 11.7 yards per catch.

Arnold has also recorded four pass breakups and has a passer rating when targeted of 101.8.

The Lion’s second round pick, cornerback Ennis Rakestraw has also been ruled out for this game and placed on injured reserve. He has played just 46 defensive snaps this season but 95 on special teams.

Without Arnold, the Lions could turn to Kindle Vildor to take his place on Sunday. Vildor has played 72 defensive snaps this season, allowing four completions on seven targets for only 19 yards.

Detroit could also turn to Emmanuel Moseley, who was activated from injured reserve on Saturday. He has not played at all this season after suffering a pec injury during training camp. As noted by Pride of Detroit, Moseley was competing for nickel snaps during the summer but has boundary experience.

Arnold will be one of several Lions’ defenders sidelined at the moment. On injured reserve is DE Aidan Hutchinson, DT Marcus Davenport, LB Derrick Barnes, LB Alex Anzalone, and others.

However, even while navigating injuries, this is a Lions’ defense that still ranks fifth in scoring entering Week 12 and is 13th in yards per play. On the other side of the ball is the highest-scoring offense in football, with Detroit’s offense averaging over 33 points per game.

Jason Kelce chugged beers and had a glorious time in Boone as App State beat James Madison

Kelce had beers and sang karaoke, and the Mountaineers beat James Madison.

Jason Kelce might be good luck for the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

The older Kelce brother – the one with a thicker beard who isn’t playing football anymore and is expecting another child – braved the snow and pulled up to Boone, North Carolina, on Saturday to take in the Mountaineers’ game against the James Madison Dukes. For App State, the game was a crucial one to keep its bowl eligibility alive.

And while in Boone, a community that needs all the cheer it can get after feeling the impacts of Hurricane Helene, Kelce did was he does best: He had a glorious time and seemed to improve the moods of everyone around him.

The former Philadelphia Eagles center trotted through the tailgate area and chugged some beers while wearing suspenders, sang some karaoke, then made his way into Kidd Brewer Stadium to take photos with fans enjoy the game. He spoke to the crowd and briefly hopped on the ESPN+ broadcast.

The High Country was kind to Kelce during his stay at The Rock, and App State won 34-20 to improve to 5-5.

It’s easy to assume that Kelce will probably be pulling up to his brother’s game in Charlotte on Sunday, which is just 100 miles away from Boone.

Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders shoves ref, isn’t penalized

Shedeur Sanders appeared to get away with pushing the ref

Tempers and emotions were high in Kansas’ win over Colorado on Saturday.

The Jayhawks’ Dean Miller escaped being penalized for a low hit on Shedeur Sanders that looked for sure like a personal foul.

Later in the game another fracas broke out and in the process the quarterback for Colorado, Sanders, pushed the referee.

He was fortunate to avoid a personal foul and possible ejection in the defeat.

Notre Dame Week 13 highlight: Jeremiyah Love keeps streak alive

Jeremiyah Love keeps his streak going.

Notre Dame running back [autotag]Jeremiyah Love[/autotag] has his second touchdown of the night against No. 18 Army at Yankee Stadium.

Unlike his first score of the evening, which was a receiving touchdown, Love’s second was a rushing touchdown for the No. 6 Fighting Irish. Meaning his streak of games with a rushing touchdown has extended to 11.

This one was a 14-yard scamper that ended a 3-play, 41-yard drive that took 1:23 off the clock. Love found the end zone with 4:35 remaining in the first half, shortly after Notre Dame forced Army to go three-and-out.

That series followed an Irish failure to punch it in on fourth-and-goal.

Love also had runs of 21- and 6-yards on the drive.

Wayne Bullock was the last Notre Dame player to achieve this feat, doing it in 1973-1974.

Florida State defensive back Azareye’h Thomas (8) tackles Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love (4) during a NCAA college football game at Notre Dame Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, in South Bend.

Steelers safety fined for late hit in Week 11 matchup against Ravens

Minkah Fitzpatrick received a surprising fine for a Week 11 late hit, despite not being penalized during the game.

The NFL is apparently content with adding salt to the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ proverbial wound that was opened in the Week 12 loss on Thursday Night Football to the Cleveland Browns.

Steelers free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who has been the subject of recent discussion over his lack of splash plays in 2024, was fined $11,255 for his late hit on the Ravens in Week 11.

The fine is surprising, as it apparently stems from Fitzpatrick and Ravens’ Patrick Mekari’s scuffle following a Baltimore fumble.

Mekari was the only player flagged on the play, but Fitzpatrick is seemingly the only one being fined for the altercation

Fitzpatrick likely has bigger concerns than the fine, such as preparing his secondary for Week 13’s contest against the Cincinnati Bengals‘ prolific passing attack led by QB Joe Burrow and WR Ja’Marr Chase. Fitzpatrick will also continue striving for his first interception of the 2024 season, and Week 13 in Cincinnati would be the perfect place to start.

Franco Colapinto will start the Las Vegas Grand Prix from the pit lane after being cleared to race despite a 50G crash in qualifying.

The Williams driver hit the inside wall at Turn 16 late in Q2, damaging the front left corner and sending his car across the track into the outside concrete barrier at high speed. The impact was so big it moved the barrier back, and caused a delay of over 20m while repairs took place and the significant debris was cleared up.

Colapinto was checked in the medical center after the incident and returned to his hotel to rest, with a further assessment on Saturday seeing him cleared to take part in the race.

“Following Franco’s incident in qualifying yesterday, he has undergone a thorough follow-up evaluation from the event medical team today and has been cleared to race in this evening’s Las Vegas Grand Prix,” Williams said in a statement.

[lawrence-auto-related count=3 category=1388]

“Franco’s health is our main priority, and we are relieved that he is well enough to race following such a significant incident. We thank the medical staff for prioritizing Franco’s health and wellbeing and for the excellent care he received.

“We are extremely thankful to our incredible garage team for their hard work overnight to repair Franco’s car and our fans and partners for their continued support. We have taken the opportunity to make some set-up changes during the repair and, as a result, Franco will start the race from the pit lane.

“We are looking forward to going racing under the lights tonight.”

Colapinto originally was 14th on the grid, so all drivers behind him — Liam Lawson, Sergio Perez, Fernando Alonso, Alex Albon, Lance Stroll and Valtteri Bottas — will move up a spot.

Williams has managed to repair Colapinto’s heavily-damaged car without breaking curfew at the track.
