The college football season is already halfway through. Well, if you’re following the Big 12, ACC and SEC.
The B1G just got going, but we are at the midseason point and that means a little time for reflection. USA TODAY Sports’ college football writers Paul Myerberg and Erick Smith got together to dish out some awards.
Oklahoma, nor its players, made much of a splash.
OU-Texas did, though, being one of the best games of 2020 so far.
“Oklahoma-Texas is always going to be emotional,” Smith wrote. “This year’s edition, though, outdid itself. The Sooners looked to be on their way to a comfortable win midway through the fourth quarter. Then Sam Ehlinger rallied the Longhorns and forced overtime with two late scores. Momentum would swing in the four overtimes with each team seemingly on the brink of winning before Oklahoma intercepted Ehlinger to end things.”
The other place where Oklahoma made it was by association. Guilty of it, unfortunately for them.
The Big 12 had a hard time with the Sun Belt in the first week of the season.
“The Big 12,” Erick wrote about biggest disappointments. “Did I mention the conference lost three games to the Sun Belt on a single Saturday? Oklahoma and Texas are already out, Iowa State has two losses, Baylor has taken a step back and the league is pinning almost all of its playoff hopes on No. 6 Oklahoma State. That was not expected.”
Oklahoma has five games remaining. The Sooners travel to play Texas Tech this week at 7 p.m. CT.
