Opinion: Texas’ size projects well into its new conference in 2024

Connor Stroh and Sydir Mitchell headline Texas’ list of big humans following weigh-ins.

Texas is built to dominate in the trenches. It’s evident in recent weigh-ins by Longhorns football players.

It appears the team will have several players that eclipse 330 pounds for the 2024 season. If you’re familiar with Newton’s laws of motion or simply watched how the team’s big humans worked for Texas against Alabama last season, you know that the Longhorns’ size is advantageous in moving opposition.

Offensive lineman Connor Stroh and defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell headline the group of 300-plus pound linemen for Texas with both weighing over 370 pounds. It isn’t empty weight either. Both have displayed a great degree of athleticism for their size.

In high school, Stroh excelled in powerlifting with strong squat performance. Sydir Mitchell was no stranger to highlight reel plays in addition to presence as a wrecking ball in the interior in high school. Last offseason, Mitchell was a standout in his first spring game.

Texas’ football resurgence was caused by multiple factors, but its revamped offensive and defensive line is one of the bigger reasons the program is where it is right now. It will look for continued success in the trenches in 2024.
